Irish Roses

Cara Dillon’s beautiful version of Tommy Sands’ “There Were Roses” is one of my favourite songs about the conflict in Northern Ireland. It tells of friendship and love across religious barriers, and how war and conflict is often thrown upon a unwanting population. My favourite line has to be“those who give the orders are not the ones die”, which is true for so many wars in recent history. Enjoy Cara’s amazing voice and the powerful lyrics of Tommy Sands here!
